Why #EventParents Make Better #EventProfs.

By | #9toSIMPLIFY, Super Mentor Academy | No Comments

It’s the Easter holiday break here in UK. For our US readers, that basically means that all UK schools are off for about two weeks (and universities are off for one whole month!!?!)

Right smack dab in the middle of busy spring season.

The first year living abroad here, this teeny tiny detail absolutely blindsided me. I had no clue it was coming and found myself scrambling to cobble together childcare and cashing in favors with the grandparents so we could stay business as usual.

This year, my husband and I devised a clever plan to break it up into chunks…We spent a few days off all together basking in the (unusually warm) sunshine in the National Forest last week. Then, he and the kids go off for a few days on an adventure (while I worked) and later, we flip flop as I take the kids to the seaside tomorrow.

No expensive holiday clubs (i.e. daycare camps) that the kids loathe. No FOMO. No problem, right?

You see, it dawned on me this morning as I was leisurely sipping my coffee, not being pulled in eighty billion directions and not having someone ask me to brush the gum out of their hair.

#EventParents make better #EventProfs.

In my daily routine as a parent, these 5 things drive me absolutely bonkers, but also make me more productive, faster and more on top of my game…

It’s time to plan your company’s 2017 strategic retreat.

We’ve got two hamsters at home…Fluffy and Butso (my six year old named them, for the record).

They are fascinating to watch in action.  They create nests, forage for food, explore every level and they just seem so. darn. BUSY…all the time.

Their little hamster wheel churns non-stop.

I’m fairly convinced that if I could figure out a way to hook up a power generator to that wheel, they could power my entire house.

Ever feel like a Butso in your work life?

Wouldn’t it be nice to step off the hamster wheel and focus a little time towards mapping out your strategic plan for 2017?

US Election 2016: 5 next steps for #eventprofs

By | thought of the day | No Comments

The results are in, Trump is the next President of the United States and the 2016 election have left a country divided and in shock.

So, what happens now?

First, deep breath.

repeat after me:

you are going to be okay. you are going to be okay. you are going to be okay.

We know first hand that event planners like to be in control of everything – let’s be honest – we’re control freaks…the unprecedented shock, uncertainty and anxiety is shared by all of us.

I hear you, I feel you and and I’m right there with you.

However, it’s crucial that we don’t let these feelings overwhelm us and in turn, negatively impact our businesses.

Our UK team at The Simplifiers went through a very similar experience following the UK’s Brexit vote to leave the EU earlier this year. Eerily, what you’re feeling right now is very much what was felt all over England last June. Shock, fear, the whole nine.

Put the kettle on because by golly, everything got INTENSE real quick.

But thankfully in that, we learned some important lessons and have drawn up a plan to keep you and your business moving forward…today, this week and the coming months ahead…

3 reasons why you should hire us to plan your nottingham christmas party

It’s hotter than Hades right now in Nottingham.

The last few days, we’ve been experiencing an unseasonably, crazy warm heatwave…especially for September when people should be pulling out their scarves, sipping lattes and dressing in layers once again.

Nope, we’re all boiling and there seems to be a shortage of fans and ice lollies in the city centre.

The last thing you’re probably thinking about right now is Christmas…but go with me, for a second.

I don’t want you to panic, but there’s only 102 sleeps until Christmas. And even fewer before your company’s annual Christmas party.

Have you booked your venue yet?  Have you sorted out the theme for this year?  Have you sent out save-the-dates?

No worries, click below for 3 reasons why it’s a good idea to hire an experienced Nottingham event planning firm (ahem, us!) to help you sort out all the details this year…

It was in Austin, Texas, my hometown for 15 years, the place where I was the ILEA Austin chapter president in 2011-2012 and the spot where The Simplifiers was born and launched in 2003.

Two years after moving to the UK, it felt like a sweet, sweet homecoming.
