B151: How to let yourself rest when you’re sick (guided visualization)
February 4, 2025

Time for a guided visualization exercise: How to let yourself rest when you’re sick. How does it work? Simple! Let my voice be a guide for you as you focus inward to help you tap into your inner wisdom and Intuition for answers.

Listen and participate in this guided visualization exercise: How to let yourself rest when you’re sick.

Before we get started, here are a few things that you’ll need to do in order to get the most out of this.

  1. Create a safe space - no distractions or interruptions

First off, you’ll need to create a safe space where you won’t be distracted or interrupted… and also, keep in mind that during this exercise, you’ll have your eyes closed. So yeah, probably not best to do this one while driving. Silence your phone notifications… The world can wait for the next few minutes. Then, get comfortable in a seated position or lying down, if that feels better. You get to decide. As with all visualization and breathing exercises we do together this year, you always get to decide what is best for you… take what you need, bless and release the rest.Okay, now close your eyes or avert your gaze to the ground.

  1. Take 3 intentional breaths together with me

Let’s take three intentional, life-affirming breaths.

Now, let your breathing come back to a normal pace, whatever feels right for you.

  1. Do a body scan and feel your feet

It’s time to do a body scan… imagine you are slowly scanning your entire body from the tip top of your head, slowly down like molasses, all the way to your fingertips, and then to your toes. What sensations do you feel? Knots, twinges of pain, soreness, or even , on the flip side, any feelings of harmony, joy, or flow…. just notice what you feel in your body, without judgment or trying to fix it. Just scan down, ever so slowly until you’ve done your entire body.Once you’re at your feet, really take notice of what it feels like to have your feet make contact with the ground. To be firmly rooted down, the safety and security of that sensation. What do your feet feel like right now?

  1. Time to visualize - how to let yourself rest when you’re sick

Okay now, keep your eyes closed. I want you to imagine you’ve just arrived at the most beautiful bungalow in the world. As you approach the front door, you are delighted by the fact that you found this place in the first place… It’s straight from your wildest dreams, located in a destination that is absolutely perfect for you, whether you prefer to be nestled away in the woods or next to the ocean, or maybe up in the mountains. You get to decide what location, climate, and atmosphere you prefer most. As you open the door, you’re so pleased you can take this tiny moment away from your regular hustle and bustle. The sunshine streams in through the doorway as you open it and the warmth hits your face gently.

Breathe.

Your original plan was to have a big adventure away, exploring a new spot for the very first time.

But the second you walk in and drop your bags, your body lets out a huge sigh.

And immediately, you feel like you’re coming down with something. Oh no! Do you panic? No. Do you worry? No. You know exactly what to do.

Breathe.

Your body has been waiting for the moment where your brain and your heart catch up and realize they are all safe to utterly, fully… rest.

No one needs you to solve anything or fix anything or come to their aid. Now is the time for you to rest and replenish… and reset.

For a go-getter like you, this may feel awkward at first, allowing others to take good care of you. But if you find yourself alone right now, allowing yourself to take care of you might even be a wee bit harder. No matter, you’re a champion at nurturing and caring for others. You’re better than anyone at it in the world. It’s time to focus inwards.

Breathe.

You open the pantry and the fridge to find it’s fully stocked with all the healthy, nourishing and totally delicious foods and teas and beverages to take good care of your body.

Everything you want and need is here for you.

You head to the bedroom and see the perfect setup for you. A giant, fluffy bed, loads of books by your bedside, warm sunshine streaming in, your favorite movies on demand and you realize your shoulders drop a little bit further into relaxation knowing you can nap whenever your heart desires without remorse.

Breathe.

All of this is here for you. All of this helps your cortisol levels drop and come back into balance. Everything you need is inside you or just steps away for true, deep restorative rest for your body, mind, and soul.

You slip into your favorite pajamas and get cuddled up under the blankets all snug.

You decide to rest fully, knowing there will be another day where you can go out and conquer the world. But for now, quiet and peace and calm is what you truly desire.

Breathe.

Take this last moment to say thank you with your full spirit and remember that you can revisit this gift any time you wish. It’s yours forever and ever. You are never alone and you are always fully supported.

Take a moment to gather yourself with a deep, belly-filling breath. And when you’re ready, open your eyes.

--------------

So, how did it feel to give yourself the space and permission to rest? What came up for you?

I want you to set a 7-minute timer, grab a pen and paper, and take this time to write down everything you remember from this visualization exercise.

One final whisper

It’s flu season and it may seem like every time you come out of your cave, go on public transport and get around others, you get sick.

That’s the natural cycle of life, especially in the winter months.

That’s completely normal and your body is never meant to go-go-go 365 days a year.

Even athletes take intentional time to rest and rebuild. So why shouldn’t you?

Even taking the time to do this visualization is time well spent to slow your pace down and listen to what your body needs right now.

So well done you, for doing the thing.

I hope this visualization sticks with you the entire week through. Do it again and again if you need clarity or fresh ideas to help your spirit feel refreshed once again… because when you tap into your deep inner knowing, you’re accessing the deep inner wisdom. That electric energy that can be found inside all of us that connects us all together. It knows. You know. We all know if we are brave and we open ourselves to it.

You can do this, I believe in you.

It’s time to SIMPLIFY.
