Time for a guided visualization exercise: How to let it go. Whatever it is that you’re holding onto right now, today’s episode will help you release, process, and move on from here. Whether it’s a tough conversation that didn’t quite go the way you thought it would, a situation where you might have fumbled a bit, or a life change that has come unexpectedly… whatever is sitting on your heart right now that needs to be released, this one's for you.
So, how does it work? Simple! Let my voice be a guide for you as you focus inward to help you tap into your inner wisdom and Intuition for answers.
Listen and participate in this guided visualization exercise: How to let it go.
Before we get started, here are a few things that you’ll need to do in order to get the most out of this.
- Create a safe space - no distractions or interruptions
First off, you’ll need to create a safe space where you won’t be distracted or interrupted… and also, keep in mind that during this exercise, you’ll have your eyes closed. So yeah, probably not best to do this one while driving.
Silence your phone notifications… The world can wait for the next few minutes.
Then, get comfortable in a seated position or lying down, if that feels better. You get to decide. As with all visualization and breathing exercises we do together this year, you always get to decide what is best for you… take what you need, bless and release the rest.
Okay, now close your eyes or avert your gaze to the ground.
- Take 3 intentional breaths together with me
Let’s take three intentional, life-affirming breaths.
- Deep breath in through the nose, expand the belly, hold at the top, and then slowly release through the mouth. (Do this three times.)
Now, let your breathing come back to a normal pace, whatever feels right for you.
- Do a body scan and feel your feet
It’s time to do a body scan… imagine you are slowly scanning your entire body from the tip top of your head, slowly down like molasses, all the way to your fingertips, and then to your toes.
What sensations do you feel? Knots, twinges of pain, soreness, or even , on the flip side, any feelings of harmony, joy, or flow…. just notice what you feel in your body, without judgment or trying to fix it. Just scan down, ever so slowly until you’ve done your entire body.
Once you’re at your feet, really take notice of what it feels like to have your feet make contact with the ground. To be firmly rooted down, the safety and security of that sensation. What do your feet feel like right now?
- Time to visualize - how to let it go
I want you to imagine you’re sitting at your desk and you’ve got a piece of paper and a pen in front of you.
On that piece of paper, there is a prompt at the very top that simply asks this:
“What’s one thing (big or small) that you need to let go of right now?”
You pause and ponder that question, thinking, “Well, quite a few things, really?!!” but then land on one thing that seems to be rising to the top. This is the one thing that requires your focus right now and your Intuition is guiding you to unpack it. So, you take a moment and write it down on that piece of paper.
The one thing that I really need to let go of right now is…
Breathe.
You reread what you wrote at the top of your paper. What emotions come up when you read it?
Does it feel scary or make you nervous? Does it anger or frustrate you? Or maybe, it’s a thing that makes you a bit sad or somber? When you think of the emotion this thing brings up, what are the top three things that course through your body when you think of this situation that currently lives in your head rent-free right now? Write those down on your paper.
The top 3 emotions it makes me feel are…
Breathe.
What a roller coaster! Those emotions affect how your mind thinks (or overthinks) this situation.
Those emotions may also be causing a visceral reaction in your physical body by way of poor digestion or headaches or heavy shoulders. Many times, high-stakes emotions (left unheard) tend to manifest physical ailments as your red alert warning sign. It’s time to do something about it. So, take a moment to roll your shoulders, sit up straight in your chair, and shift the energy in your body by visualizing it slowly flowing down, down, down your body and out through your feet and into the ground. Imagine it slowly leaving your body. Letting it go, physically to release.
Breathe.
Looking back at your piece of paper and that thing you must let go of right now… What can you control about this situation?
What is yours to own? Write it down. What is well within your power to positively change (even if it’s your attitude towards the situation or the aftermath)? Imagine yourself writing that down right now and reread what you wrote two times so it cements into your mind’s eye.
Breathe.
What would it feel like to let this thing go?
To be done with it, place it in the rear view mirror of your life and move forward to where you’re destined to head next. Imagine what that would feel like: maybe freedom, less stress, less worry, less sadness or anger or fear. Less frustration or feeling like you’re stuck. Just accepting what is, making the cognitive choice to let it go and move forward in a better direction.
As long as this choice isn’t harming yourself or others… What's stopping you?
Breathe.
Imagine taking this piece of paper and reading everything you’ve written down from top to bottom, one more time.
Really soak in the words and wisdom that you’ve managed to put down on that page, so it’s etched into your mind. Go slow, really absorb it all - this is your Intuition and deep wisdom trying to reveal something to you right now. This is a gift and the keys to help you shift the energy, move out of this feeling of being stuck, and head in a better direction today. You notice one line really standing out to you right now on your piece of paper. One thing that your heart and soul is trying to tell you in this moment - it’s popping off the page at you. What does it say?
Breathe.
Take the piece of paper, fold it up and put it somewhere safe.
And then… take this last moment to say thank you with your full spirit and remember that you can revisit this gift anytime you wish. It’s yours forever and ever. You are never alone and you are always fully supported.
It’s time to gather yourself with a deep, belly-filling breath. And when you’re ready, open your eyes.
--------------
So, how did it feel to imagine yourself journalling that one thing you really need to let go of right now? To identify it, explore it, and then to decide to really let it go.
I want you to set a 7-minute timer, grab a pen and paper (IRL!!), and take this time to write down everything you remember from this visualization exercise.
- What wisdom was shared?
- What visual clues did you see?
- What did your higher self look like in the mirror?
- What part of this exercise is sticking MOST in your mind and in your heart, that you can’t seem to shake?
- …and what’s one thing that you can do today (with courage and simplicity) to take action on this vision, in real life?
One final whisper
Whatever is causing you to feel stuck right now, remember that…
…The second you release attachment to it, you will start to feel freedom.
Clarity comes when we stop trying to control everything in our lives (personally or professionally) and stop the white-knuckle death grip on all the precious things in our life. Holding things loosely and realizing you are the only constant in this life full of change and flux… That is the way.
Let that thought simmer on your heart today.
What if I let it go, proceed forward by taking daily, imperfect action towards the life I really, really want to live and rise above the noise and nonsense?
If it’s not doing harm to myself or to anyone else? What’s stopping me from letting it go?
I hope this visualization sticks with you the entire week through. Do it again and again if you need clarity or fresh ideas to help your spirit feel refreshed once again… because when you tap into your deep inner knowing, you’re accessing the deep inner wisdom. That electric energy that can be found inside all of us that connects us all together. It knows. You know. We all know if we are brave and we open ourselves to it.
You can do this, I believe in you.
