Time for a guided visualization exercise: How to #dothething. (It’s a hashtag because it’s an action statement!) Especially when you don’t feel fully ready yet. Especially when fear is whispering in your ear. Especially when doubt, hesitation, or perfectionism starts creeping in.
Because doing the thing is not about having it all figured out first.
It’s about choosing courage.
It’s about trusting the next step.
It’s about taking action anyway.
Maybe the thing for you is going for a walk.
Making the call.
Pitching the idea at work.
Having the hard conversation.
Laying down the boundary.
Saying hell yes.
Or no thank you.
Whatever your thing is… today’s episode is for you.
So, how does it work? Simple! Let my voice be a guide for you as you focus inward to help you tap into your inner wisdom and Intuition for answers.
Listen and participate in this guided visualization exercise: How to #dothething.
Before we get started, here are a few things that you’ll need to do in order to get the most out of this.
1. Create a safe space - no distractions or interruptions
First off, you’ll need to create a safe space where you won’t be distracted or interrupted… and also, keep in mind that during this exercise, you’ll have your eyes closed. So yeah, probably not best to do this one while driving.
Silence your phone notifications… The world can wait for the next few minutes.
Then, get comfortable in a seated position or lying down, if that feels better. You get to decide. As with all visualization and breathing exercises we do together this year, you always get to decide what is best for you… take what you need and release the rest.
Okay, now close your eyes or avert your gaze to the ground.
2. Take 3 intentional breaths together with me
Let’s take three intentional, life-affirming breaths.
- Deep breath in through the nose, expand the belly, hold at the top, and then slowly release through the mouth. (Do this three times.)
Now, let your breathing come back to a normal pace, whatever feels right for you.
3. Do a body scan and feel your feet
It’s time to do a body scan… Imagine you’re slowly scanning your body from the top of your head… down past your shoulders…Through your arms… to your fingertips… All the way down your torso, hips, legs, and toes.
Notice any sensations — maybe tightness, softness, warmth, heaviness.
No judgment.
Nothing to fix.
Just noticing.
Once you’re at your feet, really take notice of what it feels like to have your feet make contact with the ground. To be firmly rooted down, the safety and security of that sensation. What do your feet feel like right now?
4. Time to visualize - How to #dothething.
Okay now, keep your eyes closed. I want you to imagine that you are standing at the edge of a long, open path.
It is early morning.
The air feels fresh.
The light is soft and golden.
There is space around you.
Quiet.
Stillness.
A sense that something new is possible here.
This path represents your life.
Your growth.
Your next brave step.
And a little way ahead of you on the path… there it is.
The thing.
The thing you’ve been putting off.
The thing you keep thinking about.
The thing you know matters.
Maybe you know exactly what it is.
Maybe it comes into focus slowly.
No rush.
Just breathe.
What is the thing you know you need to do?
Breathe.
Notice what comes up in your body as you see it.
Is it excitement?
Fear?
Resistance?
A tightness in your chest?
A heaviness in your stomach?
Just notice.
No judgment.
No fixing.
No forcing yourself to be fearless.
Just tell the truth.
What are the top three emotions that come up when you think about this thing?
The top 3 emotions it brings up are…
Breathe.
Now imagine a gentle mirror appears beside the path.
As you look into it, you don’t see yourself as you are today.
You see the version of you from exactly one year ago.
Look at that person with compassion.
Notice how much they were carrying.
Notice what they were learning.
Notice what they did not know yet.
And yet… they kept going.
They made hard choices.
They started before they felt ready.
They learned through trial and error.
They tried again.
They did the thing.
Over and over again.
And because of that… here you are.
Breathe.
What do you want to say to the version of you from one year ago?
Maybe it’s thank you.
Maybe it’s I’m proud of you.
Maybe it’s keep going.
Say it quietly in your mind.
Breathe.
Now look back at the path in front of you.
And instead of seeing the thing as one giant leap, let it break down into one simple next step.
Just one.
Not the whole plan.
Not the final outcome.
Not every possible scenario.
Just the next move.
What is the one action you can take next?
Maybe it’s sending the email.
Making the ask.
Opening the document.
Starting the outline.
Booking the meeting.
Speaking the truth.
Taking the walk.
Laying down the boundary.
What is your next step?
Breathe.
Now imagine that further down the path stands your future self.
This version of you is calm.
Grounded.
Steady.
Not perfect… but deeply rooted in self-trust.
This version of you has already done the thing.
They know what opened up because you were willing to move.
They know the person you became because you chose courage over comfort.
Now this future version of you walks toward you.
They stand right in front of you now.
What do they look like?
How do they carry themselves?
What energy do they bring?
And what do they want to say to you right now?
Listen closely.
Maybe they say…
You do not need to be 100% ready.
You just need to begin.
You do not need perfect timing.
You just need willingness.
You do not need every duck in a row.
You just need one honest next step.
Let those words settle in.
Breathe.
Now imagine your future self placing a small spark of light right into the center of your chest.
This spark is courage.
Not loud courage.
Not dramatic courage.
Steady courage.
Quiet courage.
The kind that helps you keep showing up.
Notice that spark begin to glow brighter.
With every inhale, it grows.
With every exhale, it spreads.
Through your chest.
Your shoulders.
Your arms.
Your hands.
Your torso.
Your legs.
All the way down into your feet.
You are grounded.
You are supported.
You are capable.
Now ask yourself:
What would it feel like to trust myself here?
What would it feel like to move before I feel fully ready?
What would it feel like to do the thing anyway?
Breathe.
Now see yourself taking that one next step on the path.
Just one step.
Notice what shifts.
You are no longer standing still.
You are moving.
And movement changes things.
That one step becomes momentum.
Momentum becomes belief.
Belief becomes proof.
Proof that you can trust yourself.
Proof that you can handle discomfort.
Proof that courage gets stronger every time you use it.
Breathe.
Now let a few small images flash before you… little snapshots of your real life.
You going for the walk.
You making the call.
You pitching the idea.
You having the conversation.
You saying yes.
You saying no thank you.
You taking action.
You doing the thing.
Notice how each small choice adds up.
A thousand daily choices.
A thousand tiny acts of courage.
And suddenly, you realize…
Who you are today is radically different than who you were one year ago.
And that’s exactly the point.
You did the thing.
Again and again.
And it brought you here.
Breathe.
Now, before we close, place one hand over your heart.
Feel the rise and fall of your breath.
And silently repeat after me:
I do not need to be perfect to begin.
I do not need certainty to take the next step.
My courage is enough for today.
My discipline will carry me forward.
I am ready to do the thing.
One more time…
I am ready to do the thing.
Take one final deep, belly-filling breath in…
and slowly let it go.
It’s time to gather yourself… and when you’re ready, open your eyes.
--------------
So, how did that feel? What came up for you?
I want you to set a 7-minute timer, grab a pen and paper, and take this time to write down everything you remember from this visualization exercise.
- What wisdom was shared?
- What visual clues did you see?
- What part of this exercise is sticking MOST in your mind and in your heart, that you can’t seem to shake?
- And what’s one small thing you can do today (with courage and simplicity) to take action on this vision, in real life?
Answer as many of these questions as you like… or just focus on one. Whatever brings you the clarity you desire right now, you get to decide.
One final whisper
Doing the thing is rarely about feeling fully ready first.
It’s about trusting yourself enough to take one brave step.
It’s about moving even when fear is still sitting in the passenger seat.
It’s about remembering that courage is not the absence of fear… it’s the choice to move with it anyway.
You are allowed to begin before the plan is perfect.
You are allowed to use your voice.
To make the call.
To make the ask.
To set the boundary.
To go after what matters.
And every time you do?
You become a little more yourself.
A little more steady.
A little more free.
A little more alive.
Let that notion settle on your spirit today.
I hope this visualization sticks with you the entire week through. Do it again and again if you need clarity or fresh ideas to help your spirit feel refreshed once again… because when you tap into your deep inner knowing, you’re accessing the deep inner wisdom.
That electric energy that can be found inside all of us that connects us all together. It knows. You know. We all know if we are brave and we open ourselves to it.
